Sometimes the best opportunities come when you least expect them – and that’s exactly how our next chapter in Burswood began.
What started as a casual chat and a beer between Rocky Ridge co-founder Hamish Coates and DJ McCready from Mountain Culture quickly turned into something much bigger.
“Opening a venue south of the river had always been in our long-term plans – but definitely as something for further down the track,” says Hamish. “When DJ mentioned the Perth venue was available, it felt like the stars aligned much sooner than we thought. The space already had great bones, an awesome tap system and loads of potential – it just made sense.”
The former Fox Friday site in Burswood will soon be transformed into Rocky Ridge Burswood – our latest venue and the second Rocky Ridge home base in Perth in just five months. We’re aiming to reopen the doors by early August, pending the liquor licence transfer process, and in true Rocky Ridge style, we’ll be giving the venue a little refresh along the way.
What’s Changing?
For starters, the 20-tap system you already know and love is being expanded to make room for even more of our fresh, limited and seasonal releases. “We learned a lot from opening Duncraig – how much people value a genuine, welcoming space with great beer and good food,” says Hamish. “Duncraig feels like your laidback local, while Burswood has the size and energy to do something a little bigger – gigs, functions, and fresh events that let us push the boundaries a bit more.”
But Burswood won’t just be about great beer and good times – this venue also plays a key role in Rocky Ridge’s bigger sustainability story.
“This location makes so much sense for us, not only as a venue but as part of our sustainability goals,” Hamish explains.
The Same Rocky Ridge Spirit
While the venue itself will get some TLC, what won’t change is our commitment to community and good beer – values that have been the heart of Rocky Ridge since day one in Jindong.
“For us, it’s all about community,” says Hamish. “Whether it’s Jindong, Busselton, Brunswick, Duncraig or now Burswood, that’s the core of everything we do. We’re all about bringing a bit of that laid-back Jindong atmosphere into each of our venues – creating spaces where people feel welcome, relaxed, and part of something local. We know Burswood has been through a few changes recently, so our goal is to bring some stability, care, and fun back into the space. We want it to feel like your local from day one – great beer, good energy and genuine connection. That’s the Rocky Ridge way.”
A Fresh New Hub for Perth Beer Lovers
Burswood will offer a new home for Perth beer lovers – a place to enjoy our core range, limited releases and one-off experimental brews, all pouring fresh from an upgraded tap system. While the vibe will differ from Duncraig’s cosy, neighbourhood feel, you can expect the same authenticity, energy and warm welcome that runs through every Rocky Ridge venue.
We can’t wait to open the doors and welcome you into the newest member of the Rocky Ridge family. Stay tuned for updates – we’ve got big plans brewing.
